Indian Premier League



Indian Premier League (IPL) or DLF Indian Premier League refers to the Twenty20 format tournament that is backed by the wealthy BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). It has even supported by the ICC (International Cricket Council).

This tournament has been in the news for quite some time for its indigenous approach of bidding cricketers for different participating teams. This course of action seems to derive its inspiration from the American and British technique of hiring players. This franchisee system has roped in several celebrities and corporate to own the different participating teams.

In addition to this, there are some players who are tagged as ‘Icon Players’ representing the place they are based in. These Icon Players are inclusive of Saurav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, Rahul Dravid, and Sachin Tendulkar.

The DLF Indian Premier League 2008 would compromise of 59 matches over a span of 44 days beginning from 18th April, 2008. The winning team would be awarded with the prize-money of US$3 million.
