The Indian Police Service, also known as Indian Police or IPS, is one among the three All India Services of the Government of India. To serve in the Indian Police Service, a candidate has to pass the Civil Service Examination conducted by the Union Public service Commission every year. The examinations consist of three stages, the first is the Preliminary examination, the second is the Main examination and the last is called the Viva voce or the Interview.
After combining the mark of the Main exam and the Interview, candidates are selected according to merit list. The selected officers are then trained at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy situated in the city of Hyderabad.
