Humayun's Tomb, Delhi

The Humayun's Tomb was the first garden tomb, built in 1570. It is known to be the first monument that characterises Mughal imperial architecture. The tomb marks the grave of the Mughal Emperor Babur, Humayun's father.
The tomb is situated on the eastern edge of Delhi and south of the Purana Qila. The tomb is set in the centre of the garden and a high wall surrounds the three sides of it. The tomb sits at the centre of a 21 feet high pedestal. The central dome is double layered and is about 140 feet high from the ground. The entire tomb is ornamented with white marble clad in red sandstone.
