Guruvayoor, May 24: The centuries old bell, believed to have been gifted to King Zamorin of Kozhikode by Portuguese explorers four centuries back, was shifted to its new spot as part of some internal rearrangements in the temple complex.
The bell was re-installed with ceremonies and rites led by the temple Thanthri (traditional high priest), Chennas Vasudevan Namboodiri, after the Seeveli procession in the morning.
The local tradition has it that the bell was presented to King Zamorin by Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama, who landed in Kozhikode towards the end of the 15th century.
Zamorin, the traditional owner of the temple, later presented the bell to the temple.
