|Earlier, the focus in India of the government was on the comprehensive health care system of the country. However, now it has changed to a selective programme which aims at the domains like immunisation, family planning, selective disease surveillance and medical education and research. In the policies and actions that are taken up, it is the responsibility of the Indian state governments to manage them.
Many plans and schemes are taken up in the five year plans made by the government in which a good percentage of the GDP of the country is invested in the health care programmes. The Central Council of Health and Family Welfare provides effective strategies on health care programmes which the central and the state governments can then take up to improve the health care facilities available in India.
