Hawa Singh

Hawa Singh was born on December 16, 1937. He is a legendary boxer of India both at the national as well as Asian circuit. After joining the Indian Army in 1956, he seized the Western Command title in 1960. He won the National title consecutively for 11 years from 1961 to 1971. He won the Asian Games boxing gold twice (1966, 1970).
Hawa Singh was conferred the Arjuna Award in 1966. Later, he won the best Sportsman Trophy from the Chief of the Army staff in 1968. In 1999 he was awarded with the prestigious Dronacharya Award for his contribution as a boxing coach. He suddenly died at Bhiwani on 14th August 2000.
