Haji Ali Mosque

The Haji Ali Mosque is located on an island off the coast of Worli in Mumbai. Although it is a mosque and dargah but still it is very popular among Hindus also. It is believed that praying at the mosque helps fulfill one's wishes. As many as 40,000 pilgrims visit the shrine on Thursdays and Fridays.
The mosque was built in 1631 by a wealthy Muslim merchant and saint named Haji Ali who renounced all his worldly possessions before making a pilgrimage to Mecca.

The mosque occupies an area of 4,500 meters, and an 85 foot tower is the architectural highlight of the structure. The main hall has marble pillars embellished with colored mirror work: blue, green, yellow chips. The ninety-nine names of Allah are also written on the pillars.
