Gopal Krishna Gokhale

Gopal Krishna Gokhale, one of the founding social and political leaders during the Indian Independence Movement was born on May 9th 1866 in Kolhat, Maharashtra. He was a senior leader of the Indian National Congress (INC) as well as the Servants of India Society.
Gokhale completed his secondary education from Rajaram High School in Kolhapur. To pursue higher studies, he shifted to Bombay (at present Mumbai), and attended the Elphinstone College. He acted as the mentor in the formative years of Mahatma Gandhi. He passed away on February 19th 1915 owing to unnecessary exertion, cardiac asthma as well as diabetes.
