Zail Singh had very less formal education. He had a great knowledge of Sikh doctrine and history. He could read the Guru Granth Sahib fluently. He was a prolific and perfect speaker and could spellbind people with his public speaking skills. He did his college education at the Shahid Sikh Missionary College in Amritsar.
Zail Singh's public life was extensive and varied. He was a freedom fighter, state Congress leader, Chief Minister, Union Home Minister and the president of India. He also served as Chief Minister of Punjab. Giani Zail Singh was elected to the highest office of the President of India on July 15, 1982.
This great leader passed away on December 25, 1994. |
