|Gegong Apang is the ex-chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh. He was born on July 8, 1949 to parents of Adi descent. He was chief minister from 1980 to 1999 and again from 2003 to 2007. His most treasured dream was to take over West Bengal patriarch Jyoti Basu’s record of being the longest existing Chief Minister of any state and he managed to do that by resigning after a stint of 19 years. He got appointed as the leader of newly formed United Democratic Front, which was a coalition of his own political party, Arunanchal Congress and many more. A little later, Apang and some of the MLA’s that were his supporters got merged with Bhartiya Janta Party. Arunachal Pradesh became the first BJP ruled state in the Northeast of India.
