|Gagan Ajit Singh was born on December 9, 1980 at Ferozepore, Punjab, India and is one of the few mainstays of the Indian hockey team. He had a passion for game since his initial years, as his father Ajit Singh, as well as uncle Harmik Singh were Olympians of repute. Gagan was a fleet-footed centre-forward and made his debut at the national circuit with a record of 27 goals in the Junior Nationals for Air-India Academy in 1997. He came up as the highest scorer for Air-India in 1997. In 2003, he was conferred with the Arjuna Award.
