Fish Amritsari

Amritsari fish serves as a great appetizer or side dish complementing the main course. Fish is prepared with lot of spices and seasonings to make it mouth watering. This recipe originated in Punjab and so it is popular as Amritsari Fish. This snack has a great aroma and can be enjoyed with mint or coriander chutney. Lemon juice further improves its taste.

The ingredients required to make this mouth watering snack are 1 kg fish cut into medium-thick slices, 3 tbsps ginger paste, 3 tbsps garlic paste, 1 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1 tsp cumin powder, 1 tsp ajwain, 1 tsp chili powder, salt to taste, lemon juice, 1 cups Bengal gram flour, oil to shallow fry fish and lime wedges.

Mix all the ingredients except the fish and lime wedges, in a large, shallow dish. Form a thick paste. Then put the fish pieces in it and let it marinate for an hour. Then heat the oil and fry the fish till it turns golden brown and crisp. Squeeze lemon juice over the pieces just before serving. Garnish with lime wedges and serve it with onion rings and chutney.
