Firaq Gorakhpuri

Raghupati Sahay 'Firaq' Gorakhpuri was a notable contemporary Urdu poet from India. He was born on 1896 and established himself in the era that boasted Urdu poets like Sahir, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Iqbal and Kaifi Azmi. He was appointed into the Provincial Civil Services, but later he resigned and joined as an English lecturer in Allahabad University.
Some of the famous poem collection of Firaq includes Rooh-o-Qaayanat, Gul-e-Ra'naa, Nagma-numaa and Gul-e-Naghma, for which he received the Jnanpith Award and the Sahitya Akademi Award in Urdu in 1960. For the same poetry, later in 1970, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship. He passed away in 1982.
