Fatehpur Sikri
Fatehpur Sikri, a city predominantly in Red Sandstone was built during the second half of the 16th century by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. It is located 37 km away from Agra. It is one of the finest examples of Mughal and Hindu architectural majesty. At present it is a World Heritage Site.
Some of the finest monuments within the complex area are the Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i-Khas, Panch Mahal, Buland Darwaza, the tomb of Saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, and the Jama Masjid. The building of Fatehpur Sikri shows an intermingling of a number of architectural craftsmanship influenced from Hindu and Jain architectural combined with Islamic elements.
