The Indian government after seeing that percentage of children who still were not able to receive education even at the basic level, decided to launch Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan. Through this venture, the Indian government plans to make the elementary education available to every Indian child up completely free. At the time of the last five year plan, the number of children between 6-14 years enrolled for education was 82%. The Indian government now aims to make this a complete 100% by the turn of the decade.
For this, efforts have been taken by the government and now more than 94% of the rural population have a primary school within a kilometre and with 84% population having access to an upper primary school within 3 kilometres. Through this venture, the government strives to make the parents aware so that there can be a check on the drop out rate after elementary education is complete.
