Duleep Trophy



The Duleep Trophy is a first class match played in India among teams representing particular geographical zones of the country. It has derived its name from Kumar Shri Duleepsinghji. It was started in 1961-62 by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). In the inaugural tournament, South Zone was defeated by West Zone with 10 wickets. North Zone has been the most winning team and has recorded 17 wins to its credit comprising of one shared trophy. In the 2002-03, the zonal teams were substituted by 5 new teams. These are Elite A, Elite B, Elite C, Plate A and Plate B. these divisions were introduced in the Ranji Trophy that season. It lasted for just one season.
