Dr. Verghese Kurien

Verghese Kurien, known as the father of the white revolution, was born on November 26th 1921 in Kozhikode, Kerala. He is also referred to as the Milkman of India, and is closely associated with the world's largest diary development program known as Operation Flood. He graduated in Physics from Loyola College, Chennai and then went on to study B.E. (Mechanical) from the University of Madras. He also went to the USA on a government scholarship to pursue Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University.
He is the most acclaimed chairman of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF). Kurien has been bestowed with several awards and honours inclusive of International Person of the Year(1993) by the World Dairy Expo, Ramon Magsaysay Award, Padma Shri (1965), Padma Bhushan (1966), as well as Padma Vibhushan (1999). His name is synonymn to the Amul brand.
