Dhyan Chand

Major Dhyan Chand Singh was a former hockey player of India and a part of the three time gold winning Indian hockey team in the Olympic Games. He was born on August 29, 1905 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. During his illustrious career he has won countless awards and accolades. In his career as a hockey player, he has scored over thousand goals.

In 1956, Dhyan Singh retired from the army with the rank of Major. In the same year he was conferred with the Padma Bhushan. He died on December 3, 1980 and exactly after one year the Government of India released a stamp in his honour.
