Cave Temple

The Badami Cave temple is a prominent example of rock-cut architecture of India. It was founded by Pulakesin in the 6th century A.D. It is situated in North Karnataka and was once the capital of the Chalukya Empire. The architecture of this temple is a combination of Indo-Aryan Nagara style and the South Indian Dravidian style. The temples are dedicated to Brahmanical deities. Exquisite carvings, murals and sculptures can be found within the temple.
There are four caves inside the temple that are craved out of Badami sandstone. The styles of the caves are very simple and represent different religions. Out of the four caves, two are dedicated to Lord Vishnu, one to Lord Shiva and the last cave is a Jain temple.
