C.V.Raman

Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was an Indian physicist, born on 7 November 1888 in Tamil Nadu. For his work on molecular scattering of light he was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. He became the director of the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore in 1934 and retired in 1948.
Raman started his won company called Travancore Chemical and Manufacturing Co. Ltd. in 1943 along with Dr. Krishnamurthy. In 1947, he was appointed as the first National Professor by the new government of Independent India. In 1949, he established the Raman Research Institute in Bangalore and served as its director until his death on 21 November, 1970. In 1954 he was awarded the Bharat Ratna and the Lenin Peace Prize in 1957.
