Brabourne Stadium was constructed on a piece of land regained from the sea, which Lord Brabourne (Governor of Bombay) presented to the cricket club of India. It was inaugurated on 7 December, 1937. It was initiated with the idea that it would be Lord’s of India. It was a multi sport complex that hosted international tennis. However, the ground has some issues, particularly with the crowds who often packed it beyond capacity. There were constant disputes regarding ticketing arrangements. This drove the Bombay Cricket Association to build its own stadium just a little away. The Brabourne Stadium has fascinating history. |
