|Bishnu Ram Medhi was born of April 24, 18888 in a peasant family of Hajo. It was a place of religious and historic importance. He excelled in academics since childhood and cleared the Entrance exam from Guahati. In 1921, he joined the non-cooperation movement and became the President of the Congress in Assam till 1938. He held several important positions like the Joint Secretary of the Reception Committee Session in Assam, Minister in the Gopinath Bardoloi Cabinet in Assam, Governor of Madras. He passed away on January 21, 1981 and donated his entire possession for public purposes.
