|For those Hindus who want to have a wedding which is a simple and quiet affair, the Arya Samaj Wedding is the best way the couple can take their marital vows. Usually, it is the community and the religion of the couple that decides which way they are going to get married. Nowadays however, people have started to turn to Arya Samaj weddings since they want simplicity and purity rather than pomp and show.
The Arya Samaj Wedding takes places with the ways and rules which are described in the Vedas. The rituals are simple and not very elaborate. Just an hour is required for the marriage to take place. Since Swami Dayanand Saraswathi, the founder of the Arya Samaj did not believe in idol worship, it is fire that is taken as witness for the wedding. There are small rituals like the Sapt-padi where the couple take seven steps together, kanyadaan which involves the bride's parents giving the hand of their daughter to the groom, and other rituals like Shilarohan, Lajahom, and Parikrama etc.
