Aparna Popat



Aparna Popat, born on 18 January, 1978, is one amongst the finest Indian badminton players. She is currently ranked 56th in the world. She took up this sport at an age of 8 and started winning National and State level tournaments when she was 13. To extend her ability she shifted to Prakash Padukone’s Badminton Academy in Bangalore in 1994.
In 1998, Aparna won the Women's Singles in the French Open, Paris. She won a bronze at the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002. She also represented India in the Sydney Olympic Games 2000 and was India's sole badminton representative at the 2004 Olympic Games. In 2005, she was awarded with the prestigious Arjuna Award.
