Anwar Hussain is a playback singer who became popular for the uncanny resemblance of his voice with that of Mohammad Rafi, the greatest of the Hindi playback singers. He was born in 1949 in Mumbai. He was classically trained by Ustad Abdul Rehman Khan and later started singing the songs of Mohammad Rafi at various concerts. He was offered a chance to sing by the music director Kamal Rajasthani in his film ‘Mere Gharib Nawaz’.
Later in 1977, music director Rajesh Roshan hired Anwar to sing for two songs of the film Janta Hawaldar. Both the film as well as the songs was super hit. Apart from filmy songs he also sings classical, contemporary ghazals, bhajans, qawwalis, and Sufi songs.
