Ajanta Caves India



Ajanta caves are the first Buddhist caves, located 101 km north of Aurangabad in Maharashtra. It has been designated as Wold Heritage Site so that its artistic legacy can be preserved. It has 30 Buddhist rock cut caves, mural paintings, carvings and unique sculptures. The sculptures and paintings present in the caves are considered as masterpieces of Buddhist religious art.
In this cave you can also trace the entire course of the evolution of Buddhist architecture. The cave is classified into two distinct phases as the earlier Himalayan phase in which Buddha was worships just as a form of symbol and the later phase is the Mahayana phase in which Buddha was worshiped in its physical form.
