Adi Shankara, was also known as Sankara Bhagavatpadacarya and was born around 788 – 820 CE. He was the first philosopher to consolidate the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta, a sub-school of Vedanta. He toured all over India to propagate his teaching through debates and discourses with other philosophers. He was the founder of four monasteries that played a major role in the development and spread of post-Buddhist Hinduism as well as Advaita Vedanta. |
